Why do we do what we do the way we do?

I grew up listening to stories of an “old” grandfather, with whom I share the name and, apparently, the manual aptitude, the inventive and ingenious spirit. With him I don't share moments and memories of my own, only stories told by others.

Matsuei, the Ojichan of Okinawa has always been a trip. His dusty Shamisen (which he sculpted by hand) was my passport to a reading of the world that provokes me in the role of genetics. Being in Naha, provoked me in place of experience. What comes from him and from there? What am I in this story? The record mixes with history, distorts memory and makes me question my way of being and existing. And that answer doesn't come easy or fast. It was the longest canvas I've ever done, a year of thought and reflection on what the brush can tell and the frame can outline.

Por que fazemos o que fazemos da forma que fazemos?
 

Cresci ouvindo histórias de um vô “véio”, com quem compartilho o nome e, aparentemente, a aptidão manual, o espírito inventivo e engenhoso. Com ele não compartilho momentos e memórias próprias, apenas histórias contadas por outros.
 

Matsuei, o Ojichan de Okinawa sempre foi uma viagem. Seu Shamisen empoeirado (que esculpiu manualmente) foi meu passaporte para uma leitura de mundo que me provoca no papel da genética. Estar em Naha, me provocou no lugar da experiência. O que vem dele e de lá? O que sou eu nessa história. O registro se mistura com a história, distorce a memória e me faz questionar minha forma de ser e existir. E essa resposta não vem fácil, nem rápido. Foi a tela mais demorada que eu já fiz, um ano de pensamento e reflexão sobre isso que o pincel consegue contar e a moldura consegue dar contorno.
